Road Safety and Cell Phones
Whilst cell phones can be
a great asset to have with you whilst on the road, they can also be a big
distraction from what you should be doing - Paying attention to the road!
Did you know that drivers talking on their cell phones are 4 times more
likely to be involved in an auto accident, which is about the same statistic
for drunk drivers.
If you need to use a cell phone whilst on the road, and you're still living
in a state/country that allows this, here are some important tips to help
you through:
- Whenever it is
practical, use a hands free device. If you don't have one yet, there are
plenty of great stores online who'd be more than happy to sell you one.
- Suspend ALL calls in
heavy traffic or in poor weather conditions.
- Do NOT engage in any
stressful or emotional conversations that may divert your attention away
from the road.
- Do not take down notes
or look up numbers whilst you are driving.
- If possible, place
calls when you are not moving or merging.
Make no doubt about it,
talking on a cell phone whilst driving can be hazardous to your health. The
best tip of all is - "Don't do it!"
